These quotes stand out:

============================================================================
"Deeper, Wider, Clearer Sound for Vinyl and SACD

Pure Direct Analog Path Offers Interference-Free Hi-fi Amplification

At the touch of a button on the front panel, Pure Direct Analog Path mode brings higher fidelity to vinyl, SACD, or CD playback via your home theater. With this mode engaged, every digital circuit is physically shut down to prevent electrical interference on analog audio signals. Signals pass directly from the phono or analog audio inputs to the amplifiers and arrive at your front loudspeakers in pure analog form.

The improvement in audio quality is quite dramatic. With subtle interference erased, you can hear more detail deeper down in the mix, while the rich tonal character of vinyl is displayed in all its analog glory. This mode also lets your home theater receiver double as a dedicated analog stereo amplifier for quality source components, if space or budget precludes a dedicated hi-fi stereo system."

"Engineered for Hi-res Audio

Onkyo A/V receivers are engineered for universal hi-res compatibility and ease of use. It's now remarkably easy to enjoy albums mastered in high-resolution that you've downloaded and stored on your computer or media server. The remote app very quickly locates the 192/24 and 96/24 high-resolution audio files on your network-attached storage devices and sends them via DLNA to the receiver with zero loss in quality. Almost every hi-res and lossless format is supported, from gapless FLAC and WAV to ALAC and WMA. The PR-SC5530 also handles 5.6 MHz DSD and Dolby® TrueHD formats for the ultimate in depth and clarity. With surpassing DSP power, hi-res music on your home theater is not only easy to enjoy, it sounds absolutely fantastic as well."

7 Burr Brown DACs for audio.

I could not find anything similar on the Marantz AV8802 information.

Nice too see someone is finally focusing on audiophiles istead of the Dolby Atmos and 4k fixation.

Might trade my PR-SC5509 for it but keeping the UD9004/CP700.

Looks nice, also with the ever expanding bloat of mostly useless features. The killer might be Onkyo's decision to drop Audyssey MultEQ XT/32 in favor of their own AccuEQ. That may be an adaptation of Mccac inherited in the Pioneer acquisition. More sad news on that on that here:

http://www.avsforum.com/forum/90-receivers-amps-processors/1580129-accueq-vs-audyssey.html

It also disturbs me that Onkyo and many others do not say several crucial things in their specs. One is sampling rate limits for the EQ, which have existed via downrezzing, usually to 48k. Dead silence on that once again. Another is whether the USB and Ethernet inputs handle Mch or not. All we have is a check mark as in the past. But, in the past, these inputs were stereo only on Onkyo, Integra and many other AVRs and prepros.

I have an Integra 80.2 prepro. There is little chance I would be tempted by this new unit.

Once again, the absence of any mention of the number of channels of the supported audio formats is notable. Will this be yet another ambitious multichannel processor with hobbled support for file playback?

Disponible en janvier 2015 au prix de 3 800 euros.

Wait for proof whether :
"On passe donc d’un appareil intégrant toutes les fonctions du moment (ce qui n’est déjà pas rien) à un appareil les optimisant et leur donnant la possibilité de s’exprimer au plus haut niveau !"

Hi Kal,

I know you reviewed the AV8801 in Stereophile, and if memory serves me well you had an Onkyo/Integra processor.

How was the anaalog stereoo and multichannel audio between the Marantz and Onkyos?
I am just wondering if the AV8801 will process analog signals from my UD9004 better than a PR-SC5509/80.3?

Thank You

I think the 8801 is superior in this regard. You might think that it is due to the rather substantial analog output stage that literally dwarfs that of many others in that price range. That I cannot say nor can I predict if the newer Onkyos/Integras have closed the gap as I could only compare it to the 80.2 that I had before.

Thanks, I will get it after the prices will drop further with the AV8802 out in January, as I have no Atmos plans.

I guess the immediate question I have regards both the Marantz AV8802 and Onkyo PR SC5530 is do either of them accept DSD via HDMI and convert to Analog with no conversion to PCM? Its strange that for example the Onkyo proudly states it can accept DSD via USB but omits to mention this compatibility with HDMI?

I do not know for sure about those new units. As was pointed out previously, published "specs" are marketing creations that leave a lot of important details out. But, chances are good that these two prepros will accept DSD and convert directly to analog since their respective earlier models did so. Also, if it is supported via USB, then likely it is also via HDMI. However, it is hard to know what is going on with DAC chips in the new era of 9.1 or 11.1 channel processors, and it is possible that DSD-analog might fall by the wayside in favor of more channels.

As actual availability gets closer, I think you would have to contact the makers to be sure.
