The best overview of it is probably (as always for Floyd related material) Brain Damage;

http://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/pink-floyd-the-division-bell-20th-anniversary-edition-deluxe-bo.html

I stayed up until 11:30 last night waiting for the official announcement online, and I wasn't disappointed. The complete album on vinyl will be nice, but the BD-A copy is potentially the big revelation. Remastered from analogue tapes they've hopefully gone the 24/192 route.

And the talk of a "previously unreleased 5.1 surround sound version" seems to imply they'd experimented with this at the time. One wonders what format they were considering in 1994, or if this was tinkered with in the 21st century with a view towards SACD release. We'll just have to wait and see what else gets said in the promotion leading up to its release. Too bad I don't have surround...

Whilst not Floyd's best album The Division Bell is far from their worst, and it's a Pink Floyd box set so I've already made space for it in my collection. Look forward to hearing what high-res sonic delights are trapped within.

It seems Warners has entered the BD~A market NOT by individually releasing stand~a~lone discs but including the 5.1 remasters in very pricey box sets.

Probably would've purchased Division Bell, NOT, IMHO, one of PF's best efforts, for the 5.1 mix but I will certainly not shell out $120+ for an everything but the kitchen sink box set!

You don't want a red 7" vinyl replica of single Take It Back, a clear 7" vinyl replica of High Hopes, and a 12" blue vinyl replica of High Hopes with reverse laser etched design!!? ;-)

For hardcore Floyd fans only, I guess.

Yikes....I only want the 5.1 BD~A and I'm not even excited at that prospect, Brett.

Bought the original RBCD day/date of release, played it twice and never listened to it again.

Agreed! I am sure serious Floyd fans with have fun with all the extras, but I only want 5.1 versions of their albums. Animals, Meddle, The Wall, even Piper... would have been nice! But... as someone mentioned over on QQ, maybe people who are only interested in the vinyl will break up the set and sell the 5.1 disk on eBay. Wishful thinking perhaps, but a new 5.1 release of a Floyd album is a rare thing. It would be nice to give it a spin.

A box set of 5.1 remasters would also be nice for a change??

I'm anticipating Water's double LP Amused to Death .... another Guthrie 5.1 mix from AP.

I'm with you, brother. Guthrie's 5.1 mix of WYWH is how all Floyd albums should sound. Off topic (perhaps the Steve Hoffman thread would be more appropriate ;) but... I was just listening to The Byrds: The Notorious Byrd Brothers. I know the original (mono?) recording wasn't great to begin with, but wouldn't it be awesome to have that in Mch!!? I would love to hear "Wasn't Born to Follow" in true surround. A pipe dream? I'll probably just have to settle for my amp's surround function...which does improve the overall experience.
