I am not a great fan of EC but I have played this album quite a bit and the RBCD has always been satisfying so I was wondering what SACD would do for it.

So far so good. It's easy on the ears and does open things up a bit.

Notable improvements are 1) the brass which now sounds real (a favourite SACD trait) and 2) Breaking Point which has great slam and dynamics while the backing wah guitar stays nicely separated.

Anyone else tried it?

Other than being a bit bass shy {unlike MoFi's KIKO SACD remaster which has gobs of bass}, a very solid remaster and an overlooked gem from Clapton.

As usual, Clapton has assembled a who's who in back~up support. Total Playing Time: 57:08

I'm still anxiously awaiting to see if Audio Fidelity releases multichannel SACDs even though Steve Hoffman is not an advocate of mch. Should be interesting!

I wasn't so hot on Clapton when I was a kid. But when I got older and started listening to him as a bluesman (rather than some kind of Rock God), I began to appreciate his music...and his singing. Compared to the Robert Plants, Freddie Mercurys, and Steven Tylers... Clapton's vocals might seem a bit ordinary. But viewed as a Blues singer, his voice compliments his guitar playing very nicely. In his heart of hearts...he really is a Blues musician and all the better for it.

I don't have this Journeyman SACD. If it had a good Mch mix, I wouldn't hesitate. But, as a 2-ch only release, hmm... I'll think about. Your comments help, though.

+1

I've been playing Eric Clapton: 461 Ocean Boulevard lately. It might not have as aggressive a mix as some Prog Rock albums have, but I sure am happy to have this in Mch. Nice, natural surround image. Let's hope AF gets the message.

I just listened to this yesterday, and it sounded pretty nice to these ears. Warm, open, and very detailed as well. I think it's a winner. I never had an issue with the original CD, but the AF SACD *IS* an improvement. Maybe not a gargantuan step up, but definitely a little better, IMO.

I got this one with my AF subscription plan. It's been playing the last couple of days. It makes good background music while working with the computers.

It came in a different kind of case than all the others. It's clear. No black on it.

This arrived from America this morning but i can't get it to play in 5.1>

Hope i'm not being really stupid but I have many sacd's and use a Cambridge 751BD Blu Ray Player to listen .

The configure button on my remote flicks between 5.1 and stereo on all my other discs but doesn't seem to work on this one which won't budge from stereo for some reason.

Tried other Elton John and EC discs i have and they work as normal so it is not my Hardware.

Disc states SACD HYBRID so looks OK . anyone got any ideas ??

Hybrid doesn't mean 5.1 surround. It has SACD layer plus CD layer.

There are different types of Hybrid SACDs, for example:

SACD Multichannel - SACD Stereo

SACD Multichannel - SACD Stereo - CD stereo

SACD Mulitchannel - CD stereo

SACD Stereo - CD stereo (e.g. Eric Clapton: Journeyman)

SACD Mono - CD mono

Did I miss any? ;-)

Hybrid denotes a CD compatible layer. If there's no CD compatible layer, it's not a hybrid. All this is explained here:
