It looks like a typo: 19.99 here vs 91.99 at amazon.de -- but that presumably is two-thousand-one's problem.
Yes, they ship to "Vereinigte Staaten" and "Kanada", but if I proceed to the final order page, I see that I must pay shipping costs of either 22 or 32 euros, depending on whether the package exceeds 2kg... how heavy are 18 discs and packaging? If the package is indeed heavy then the total price will be approx. US$77 (perhaps with some discount when VAT is subtracted). Since I already have the Fagius 5-disc set, I will need to think for a bit before I buy this set.

OK This is done from memory as I no longer have the Fagius set and I have changed some of my equipment. The Fagius set has a cool balance, set well back, and I think the performances were cool too. In the Vad we closer but with plenty of acoustic. I think Vad is livelier too as a performer. Some of the recordings are clearly done in concert, if not all, and there is a little audience noise. At one point we hear someone walking about. This I don't find distracting. It should be noted that the set plays in BWV order but is not recorded that way so different sessions are clearly noticeable as we go form piece to piece and one set of sessions has slightly muddy sound compared to the rest
One of the reasons I sold on the Fagius was that a friend played me some of Rubsam's Philips set. Should that ever be reissued it would sweep the board performance wise. I guess none those recordings were quad, were they Pentaman?

Absolutely agree. It is beautifully packaged and presented.
However,my first impression is that the recording sounds much more satisfactory in 2-ch stereo. This is because (1)the level of the (artificially created?) surround channels is the same as that from the front speakers, producing a confused and boomy sound and (2) the overall transfer level is also ludicrously high as is often the case with Membran.
Anyone else found this?

Yes, the transfer level is high but not too limiting on dynamic range.I have stereo only equipment so don't have to cope with what seems the very odd sounding surround layer.

Dear Jonty
Thanks for your helpful impressions of the sound. I have now had time to dip in further and find a huge difference in sound quality between say disc 1 and disc 7, the latter being much finer and free of some very strange extraneous noises!
At £1.24 a disc it is well worth the outlay.
