For anyone who likes to synthesize their stereo (with PLII, DTS Neo etc) there's another HFPA Blu-ray from the first wave in France (Spring 2013) that pans out extraordinarily well in PLII (there must be a load of out of phase information in the original recording!?) and that is Pierre Henry - Messe Pour Le Temps Present.

Thanks, Adam!

I listened to some clips. It definitely is surround material, isn't it! I love the psychedelic mood and Go-Go beat. Fun stuff. I'll keep an eye out for it. Peace! (^-^)v

Bonjour, Ralphie!

Thanks for the exquisite photo of Brigitte! Though, I must say...How can one live up to such high expectations!? sigh... :-D LOL!

But shall I share a little French secret with you...

A beautiful story and moral to be sure.

Well, OT, the little Prince in New York was going through his albums tonite and played a not so oldie but goodie: Imaginary Day by Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays (on Warners DVD~A 5.1). BUY IT. A mix of jazz and new age with an amazing surroundfield. And if you really want an exquisite New agey, jazzy RBCD by the same duo by ALL means immediately buy As Falls Witchita So Falls Witchita Falls on ECM. Stunning/Haunting.

And how the mighty have fallen http://media.cmgdigital.com/shared/lt/lt_cache/thumbnail/960/img/photos/2013/01/04/be/94/France-Bardot-Racism.jpg

Anytime! :-)

It's interesting, the Gainsbourg/Melody Nelson Blu-ray was an excellent addition to the roster in the early days of Universal's HFPA Blu-ray Audio push, somewhat overlooked to this day... there was an earlier Deluxe Edition (French) release of the album which included the same 5.1 remix as this Blu-ray but only in DVD-Video form, so the remix in Lossless Hi-Res surround getting a release outside of France was a pleasant surprise and something of an exception for HFPA as at that time almost everything else that could have been put out in surround (i.e. a surround mix exists that could've been utilised) on HFPA was stereo only.

The Pierre Henry HFPA was one I took a punt on, never having owned or heard the album before but having a vague idea of what was in store with a teeny bit of knowledge of the genre, it looked kind of interesting.. it's a loud/maximised disc (as is all too common on these French-only HFPA's) but sounds like a really pristine restoration or just the original tapes are in truly great condition I guess? Either way, the best thing about it is that in faux surround via PLII Music the effect is something else.. far out, daddio!

Daddio, Groovy, Neat~0......is this some sort of Beatnik revival, Adam?

Or the New Wave French Resistance?

Had Adam lived in the American West in the Nineteenth Century he would've been http://cdn.c.photoshelter.com/img-get/I0000ATAzMFxv_yM/s/900/720/Transport-Motoring-Holidays-Cartoons-Punch-1991-01-09-13-3.jpg SURROUNDED!

Yes, Gainsbourg histoire de melody nelson... an awsome album, cool story, great musicians, well recorded... I have it on cd.
If it has been remastered for blu ray I may get it just to compare the two copies... I am open-minded but not convinced yet that sacd or pcm 24/96 is better than rbcd with an average system. I still have my old yamaha dvd s540 player coaxially hooked up to my MSB link dac, and the combo plays rbcd head and shoulders better than the affordable sony blu-ray bdp s570 plays blu-ray and SACDs discs through its analog output. The rest of my stereo is an marantz integrated 8004 powering Rega rs5 (which I love after a dozen of other speakers).
I also have some demo dvd audio from chesky, output 24/96 to the MSB... they sound good, but not any better than recordings well mastered for rbcd.

Pierre Henry "messe pour un temps present" is electronic music made with the first synthesizers... basically electronic sounds staged in a stereo field, and some groovy 60s' tracks (think austin powers).. Awsome to get your dog's attention and evaluate your system (stereo field, dynamic range). I remember my mom playing it on her B&O system in the 70s (vinyl) while the dog was running from one speaker to the other... I have it on CD too. If you guys want the spoken words in melody nelson and translation, let me know.. ChrisR
