This recording was made in DSD both in London and in Denver Colorado. In London we bought over our own gear, and in Denver we used a combination of our own gear and equipment borrowed from the SACD center then located in Boulder.

It was an immense priveledge to work with Lorraine Hunt Lieberson. Working on this disk is an experience I will never forget!

Just out of curiousity ...

I subscribe to the excellent Gardiner Bach Cantata pilgrimage series which, I understand, is edited by Polyhymnia. The sonics are generally excellent, even though they are live, and even though they are just on CD. Would you know if they were recorded in DSD?

I know they aren't currently released on SACD, but we can hold our fingers ...

Sorry for the late reply...

The circumstances surrounding the Bach Pilgrimage tour unfortunately didn't allow for DSD recording. We only got confirmation that we would record the whole tour 2 weeks before we started, and then we were off to a different venue almost every week -- most of which we never saw before we arrived. In some cases, the whole project was recorded in a single day, including setup (often with a break for a church service), rehearsal, concert, a bit of patching, and breakdown! It was an amazing experience to be involved in, but it pushed us to the absolute limit!

A great disc, period. Buy it if you can.

Unfortunately, a word of caution is in order. I bought this disc recently. The item I received prints the SACD logo on the inlay and on the physical disc; however, the disc turned out to be a RBCD (it also has a silver layer rather than gold). I contacted Avie but received no reply. Buyer beware.
