It's difficult to know what's going on there as these recording sessions date back to 2012 when Classic Sounds had the contract but as you say the cover work credits only Ryabenko. It could be that editing & mastering took place only recently and Ryabenko did it on his own. Maybe that was the plan all along, that Classic Sounds acted as commissioning engineers during the formative years of the label?
The more recent recordings of the Tchaikovsky Concertos from 2013 had b-sharp in support. Sleeve notes for that disc also suggested the works had been recorded in 96/24 PCM rather than DSD but Philpp Nedel of b-sharp denied this, confirming the use of DSD for at least one of the works.
This 'new' disc is likely to have been DSD recorded on a time-frame basis alone although there is no information to support this. What may be concluded from all this is that Mariinsky's sleeve and booklet notes lose quite a lot in translation.
Whatever, the results on disc are pretty impressive if not world class but there are clearly some issues on balance to clear up.
For his part Matsuev delivers a strong performance of this difficult work and one that is certainly worth having in any collection.

It's unfortunate what is happening in Ukraine and Russia. The people of Ukraine surely deserve our support in their struggle for freedom and human rights and democracy. (And this also goes for the many freedom loving, democratically minded Russians that are scared & beaten into silence.) After all, their freedom is our freedom.
And Gergiev?? Well, I had hoped that he would see the error of his ways, but obviously there is little hope of him retracting his support for Putin and Russia's atrocious policies. I know that there is some serious politics (and money) going on, but it's shocking that the Londoners keep him around.

I have written many LSO Live reviews over the years and have now informed the LSO office that as long as they engage Gergiev I will boycott their products. I don't think they care a bit about my humble protest, but I do what little I can. In my country Gergiev is engaged by the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and it is a disgrace.

My copy arrived today--wow--quite a powerhouse performance of the Concerto (haven't played the Symphony--my wife can take only so much Prokofiev at a time!). The sound is more transparent and better balanced than on their Tchaikovsky disc.
