This work takes several listens and one has to be in the right mood to appreciate it.

Indeed!

I'm unfamiliar with Pettersson. Am now listening to no. 6 on Spotify (sorry). On first listen, this is just to my liking!

Fausto K - then you'll have lots of good and interesting music to explore. I have the latest release (Syms 4 & 16) waiting for me to carve out some time for a listen. Also coming soon will be Sym13. The earlier BIS SACD's are all worth exploring as are the earlier BIS RBCD's conducted by Segerstam. I wonder if it is BIS's plan to re-record the one's they've already issued on RBCD. Maybe Robert will comment.

I know the plan includes a new recording of #7 at the end of the series but I don't know about the rest.

The Norrkoping SO (NOS) web site has special section for the Allan Pettersson project. It says there will be a boxed set of all the syms for release in 2018. I've done a quick inventory of Pettersson syms so far released on BIS. Here's the breakdown:

RBCD (in order of release date) - Syms 5, 7&11, 3&15, 8&10 (all conducted by Segerstam except No.5 conducted by Lev Markiz)

SACD (in order) - 1&2, 6, 9, 4&16, 13 (to be released soon)

Yet to come: 12, 14 and the unfinished 17 (completed by Lindberg)

All of these are from the NOS except No. 5 which was recorded in Malmo. My GUESS is that NOS will do No.5 so the boxed set will be all NOS. I'm not sure where a new No.7 was announced, but if that is true, that leaves a total of 5 syms to be recorded over the next 2 years - seems about right. This also means that the Segerstam's (perhaps exclusing 7) will be included in the set which is fine by me since they are all good performances.

The downside for the "numbers" crowd is that those older recordings are all RBCD resolution, stereo only. Will the entire set be released on SACD? I think only Bissie knows that answer.

A small correction: unfortunately, the 1&2 disc is an RBCD, even though it was released as recently as 2011. This series encompasses 3 SACDs as of this writing:

Thanks for the correction. I'd forgotten that.

Yes, it is, but the recording is 24/44,1, so that could be "corrected".
Digitally it is for sale in that format.
