There are four reviews of this and they are equally split between praise for the sound and total disappointment in the sound, apparently all listened in stereo. What would account for the divergence of opinion?, (apart from different tastes in sound - which would sort of surprise me)

Bizarre. I wonder whether some reviewers have been listening to the correct layer. (I haven't got this disc, so can't comment further.)

Yes, rather strange. Makes me wonder if there's a fault with some SACD issues?

Irrespective of that, I don't think either performance is of the highest class (which isn't an opinion you're asking for, I know...) - but there are at least two very good performances of the S-S Organ Symphony on SACD, Munch and Barenboim, they must be a safer bet. I have the Munch on a XRCD and I suspect the SACD sounds even better.

The Barenboim on DG I reviewed here after getting the Japanese import, but I don't in fact think it's worth the extra cost over the Galleria RBCD, it's the only one of the 5 or 6 Universal reissues I've been even slightly disappointed with.

Having said that I wouldn't rank the Munch performance as better than Levine's with the BPO, one of the best things he did for DG.

i have listened in multichannel on both my own and Nucaleena's systems, and i loved the sound, which does have depth. Agree that the performances are very good without being special. B

I have it and haven't reviewed yet - I thought both sound (in MC) and performances were not bad but nothing amazing. If I remember correctly we are fairly distant from the orchestra and there are fairly strong reflections from the rears.
I'll listen again and review.
Cheers

I found both these performances quite dull with not very good sound either. Can´t understand why Pentatone chose them for release actually.
