These pieces are new to me, but I am glad I took a chance. Beautiful music & performance! The recording is also very good.. the piano can be slightly reverberant, but for the most part the sound suits this music and instrument well. Recommended!!

I found a review in The Strad:

There's also a nice British Viola concertos disc somewhere on this site. I guess it would make a good companion disc for your English Viola music collection.

Yes, another outstanding SACD. Thanks for reminding me about it. Actually, I just pulled it out and am listening to it as I write. I have long enjoyed the beautiful concertos of English composers, but those lovely sonatas slipped under the radar some how. They were a pleasant discovery.

About the review in The Strad, it's a shame that they make NO mention about the MDG disk being an SACD. They only talk about the 'stunning recording quality". Well, we have seen that before. But, you've got to wonder if it's simply indifference or.. Are they worried about scaring off CD Users?
