I have to say this recording is one of the most thrilling of both symphonies available today. I had bought these as RBCD and was able to get it, together with the 2nd and 5th recently. These are definitely well worth paying a little extra if you can get them reasonably.
I'm also anxious to see what Kamu can do re: the BIS recordings. When again Robert?

Sorry if I am breaking in open doors again. But after your announcing BIS's first 24/192 recording in another post recently I just have to ask. Will that Sibelius series also be recorded for "bats and dogs"?
Is there even a chance it too will be done at 24/192?
Just wondering.

I don't need another 2 and 5, Vänska's Minnesota recordings together with Colin Davis' from Boston are enough on SACD for me.
But I have heard very positive rumours regarding some other Tokyo FM titles like Karajan's live Eroica and Beethoven 9,which according to what I have heard are much better than his DGG recordings.
Apart from our Swedish Radio here in Sweden,which plays it safe with miking overkill basically all the time these days,Radio tapes sometimes sound very nice and are often less multimiked than many commercial releases.
One thing is sure though,both Kamu and his two Finnish orchestras sure know their Sibelius.
I´ll look for this release of 3&6,when I am in Singapore next month.

I thought you had mentioned that the Kamu Sibelius would be released as a set all at once? Am I correct about that or are you planning to put out individual discs?

When we were recording in 24/44,1, I was hauled over glowing embers for missing the chance/opportunity/letting people down/ (fill in whatever you please) because we didn't record in 24/96 or at least 24/88,2.
OK, after a quite considerable investment, we have now upgraded to 24/96 for all orchestral equipment sets and the chamber music sets as well. With one chamber music set-up we can record also in 24/192, and hey, presto, already after a couple of months with the new standard we're missing the chance/opportunity/letting people down/ (fill in whatever you please) because we don't record everything in 24/192 (but why stop there???).
Can't people ever be content and happy and start listening to the Music instead???? Seriously???
And think of the repercussions in DL times - 24/192 takes 4 times as long to DL asn 24/48... and DL/stream is whither we're heading, like it or not.
Any idea of how much time I spend on this single, one, solitary question and repetitious discussion?

I stepped on some pretty sensitive toes there again obviously.
I am sure there will be "repercussions" for me too,for sticking my neck out again,not only from you but probably many others too here.
Anyway,let's first of all,face some facts regarding DL times.
I am pretty sure that I am far from the only one on Planet Earth,who can download a full Wagner Opera of say 8 gigabyte in a matter of minutes these days.
I actually downloaded Verdi's Simon Boccanegra 4 gigabyte flac,in a few minutes yesterday.
In Sweden where you and I too,spend on average,some 6 months a year,several Internet providers are offering download speeds from the puny 5-6 mbps I have in the countryside,to my current 100mbps in town,and much much faster speeds too.
500 mbps to 1 gigabyte per sec are already a fact for many in many cities in Sweden alone.
There are even wireless connections providing 30 -40 Mbps.
3 G is History 4G is the Present and who knows what the Future is holding in its womb?
And Sweden is just one tiny little Country of all Countries in the Whole Wide World.
I expect around 10 Mps Wi Fi speed at my hotel in Singapore again.
There is a lot happening in Cyberworld,and it is happening at previously unexpected speeds too.
Robert,honestly,and no offence intended but, the "bats and dogs" argument would have gone down better with me.
Regarding staying content and happy "just listening to the Music". Believe it or not but :
This Sibelius thread made dig out a forgotten GEM that has been hiding in my SACD collection.
Pentatone's Colin Davis conducting the Boston Symphony in Sibelius' 5&7 plus "En Saga" simply Made My Day.
A more romantic and not quite as note perfect and well lit,take on the glorious fifth compared to Vänska's yes.But nevertheless,a very interesting and equally enjoyable alternative imho.
But the major surprise and main glory of that SACD was imho "En Saga".
Wow,Colin Davis really whipped the Bostoners into a wonderful absolutely irresistable whirling Dance with his magic wand, especially,while that Finnish Polka is running at full tilt.
IMO absolutely wonderful Music making that gives even the Finns themselves a run for their money.
And the fact that everything has been captured in equally wonderful,ripe and fully coherent analogue sound,expertly transferred to DSD by Pentatone, doesn't hurt either.
Trust me Robert I really do listen to the Music with all my heart!
It is after all, my one and only Religion.
Having said all this trust me once more, I really do have full respect for all the economic aspects involved.
