I have been to Singapore in April, but only did find one store in the Marina Bay Sands shopping center (I guess it was named "The CD Shop" or something similar meaningless). Admittedly I did not have too much time for SACD hunting. Also in Hong Kong I usually only find the Hong Kong Records chain stores. As I will be returning to HK still this year and to Singapore probably next year: What are the real interesting SACD places there ?

Hong Kong should be great, but no stopover in Singapore? I know a couple of good music stockists there.

Singapore would be great, but I'm limited by the needs of my employer. I go where the greatest return would be and Singapore isn't a great market for us.

The Adelphi mall is the place in Singapore for both SACDs and hi end equipment.

Well, my month long travels to Asia are coming up. Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, Taipei, Tokyo, Osaka, Manila, and Kuala Lumpar in that order. My longest time away from home. September 28 to October 31. Wooo.

Tim are you really famous or something? In these days of strict control of travel budgets one is indeed fortunate to be able to spend as much as two nights in one location let alone one month and these are very exotic places that encourage all your colleagues back home to mutter that you must be on a Jolly.

I know Pacific Rim countries very well but your itinerary beats anything I've ever managed at one go. As you are in KL why not hire a car and drive over to Singapore, it isn't that far and would be very rewarding. Hi Fi is a lot cheaper there than in the UK and over the years I have taken advantage of that when passing through.

Thanks for the advice, in April I even happened to go to the Funan Electronics mall on the other side of the street and missed the Adelphi ... :-( next time I know better !

The life of those in my work field are greatly affected by the itinerary placed on them by the events and activities that are part of this work and that often make it impossible to spend too much time sightseeing or shopping. My intinerary is daunting for anyone, but it is what it is. The longest I am in any one place is in Vietnam and Japan, partly because I have planned it that way (in the case of Japan) and partly because the two events in Vietnam are separated by 3 days to where I'm in Hanoi and Saigon for about 1 week. I'm in Malaysia for two nights and 3 days. Each day is filled with recruiting events and each evening is filled with Fairs and Expos. Nope, not famous or rich, but then I never claimed I was.

When I tell people at home of my travels, they all think it's some great adventure, but then they hear of my daily schedule and realize I am busy, busy, busy and there's hardly an afternoon available to do too much extra.

I'm going to be in Kuala Lumpur (KL) for about two months too, starting the end of October. As I recall from the last time I was in KL, there's not too much to find in Malaysia itself. I did find a few goodies in Ho Chi Minh City the last time I was there, although not SACDs (stuff like the Kondrashin Shostakovich symphonies box set for a steal, etc.) - I guess I'll zip on down to S'pore one weekend to hunt for goodies, if they haven't already been taken by certain other SA-CDnet'ers :)

You are right,
I was based in KL for quite long last winter and apart from the box office shop at the Petronas Concert hall, there are virtually none left of the once thriving Classical Music shops in KL.
There is one shop that still carries quite a lot of classical but basically only rbcds at KLCC and at Sim Lim Tower Mall there is a small HI FI shop on the bottom floor level, where I got my Benchmark DAC 2 in March that has got some non classical SACDs, so if you want classical SACDs Singapore is the place to go. And there The Adelphi still rules.
Great live concerts at good prices though in KL too.

Well, I will certainly try and see if I can get down there, but really need to know the easiest way from KL to Singapore. I looked at trains and then also see there's a plane ride one can take. Time is tight though.

Rent an automobile, it's an easy drive.
