This for me will be a very interesting recording to hear production wise. As I understand it, this Zander Mahler 2 was recorded by 5/4 Productions for Linn, by the same production crew as the old Telarc. But that same crew did not record the previous Telarc Zander Philharmonia Mahler releases. Telarc and Polyhymnia had an arrangement years ago where projects recorded in the other's country/continent would have their producers produce the recording, but the home team would do the recording. Saved on allot of equipment and personal movment expenses. So all the other Zander Philharmonia Mahler recordings, released by Telarc were actually recorded by Polyhymnia.
By inference then, this M2 should have a Telarc sound, where none of the other Zander did. It will be interesting to hear.

I just pulled the 3rd and 6th from my shelves.
And I have played both quite a lot recently via my new ML speakers.
For the sixth the booklet quotes Jack Renner as engineer and Tony Faulkner and Martin Atkinson from Green Room Productions as assistant engineers.
The 3rd is stated as engineered by the same Jack Renner of Telarc again, this time assisted by Everett Porter and Roger de Schot of Polyhymnia.
And imo there is already an obvious difference in balancing between these two recordings.
Imho the third polyhymnia assisted recording is a bit more naturally balanced and slightly less multimic'd both via speakers and headphones in stereo.
It is actually a very good recording imo.
Cymbal crashes are a bit colorless,but it is nevertheless,a very realistic recording and Zander clearly pays full attention to Mahler's many dynamic indications in the score, and the Philharmonia Orchestra play wonderfully well for him.
The dynamic range is pretty impressive.
Even the often mentioned DSD reference DECCA Chailly recording seems to have been slightly artificially "augmented" at the mixing desk,here and there in comparison.
It is also quite interesting to compare Telarc's 6th to Channel Classics SACD of the same work. Jared Sack's recording is clearly more natural and realistically balanced without any of the obvious spotmiking that can be a bit disturbing at times,on the Telarc imo.
I guess it depends on personal preferences and how revealing a system one has, which of the two one likes most but both are very good both as interpretations and DSD recordings.
Telarc's 6th might sound more impressive on a less resolving system and Jared's needs both a highly resolving system and high levels to bloom and on the whole sounds more like a real orchestra in a real hall than the Telarc on my systems.
But once again the one thing that will probably convince me that I might need this recording too could well turn out to be a completely different matter than balancing and ultimate SQ. And that might be the soprano Miah Persson !
I just sampled some of her Fioridligi from a recent DGG 24/96 hi res pcm download of Mozart's COSI FAN TUTTE.
Absolutley fantastic soprano voice imo.

Proof reading Hmm ?
Their name is LINN.
And under that same name they also used to make a turntable that in some respects still rivals the very best of modern digital SQ imo.
I still spin LPs on my treasured LINN SONDEK LP12 almost daily.

Yes, and you correctly pointed out the exception. Actually, both the M5, recorded in 2000, and M6 recorded in 2001 preceded the relationship with Polyhymnia, which I don't think was in operation yet at that time. The M3 (2003) and M1 (2004), along with other European projects were as I described in my post.
