Awesome!!

I didn't even know about this series. Just happened to stumble across it. I am giving it a first listening now and love it. This is Vol.1. Is there really going to be more!? Hallelujah!!

Thank you CPO!!

Got some great news from CPO (via jpc) that the second volume of the complete Pachelbel organ works will be released in 2014. If it.s anything like vol 1, it will be well worth having - the music is sublime for the most part and performance and recording are worthy of it.

p.s. .... and the best aspect of this news is that vol 2 will contain most or all of the chaconnes, Pachelbel's masterpieces (espec. the F minor).

I'm definitely going to get that volume too!

It would be interesting to compare them to the fabulous Antoine Bouchard recordings on the Dorian label. To me Dorian made some of the best organ recordings I know.

Although I am primarily into SACD, when it comes to organ recordings the Dorian RBCD recordings of Jean Guillo performing in St Eustache Cathedral are simply the finest organ recording in my collection, bits and resolution aside, I am continuously amazed at the spectacular organ sound captured by Dorian on these CD’s.

Found the Bouchard recordings very good but just a bit too French for the music - or was I imagining things?

That is excellent news!! Thanks for the heads up. I won't miss that release. I've been getting endless listening pleasure from Vol.1... and am eagerly awaiting Vol.2.

I think it will be interesting to compare this series to Pachelbel: Organ Works - Joseph Kelemen (Süddeutsche Orgelmeister, Vol. 3), which offers another beautiful performance in Mch... and is recommended especially for those who prefer to have only a single disk of Pachelbel's inspired music. Oehms's SACD includes the famous Chaconne in f minor although it has been transposed to d minor to make its performance more suitable to the organ.

Once again... Many thanks to both CPO and Oehms for giving us 2 magnificent series of baroque organ music in multichannel!!

I just love the Bouchard recordings, they are just a little expansive compared to the CPO and obviously RBCD only, still great Dorian sound.
The Bouchard recordings consist of 11 cd's, I wonder if CPO will issue all the music?
And BTW Pachebel was the most influential German composer after Schutz and before Bach, I find his organ music very musical and entertaining.

This set is titled "Complete Organ Works I," and the liner notes confirm CPO will record all of Pachelbel's keyboard works, most on organ, but a few on harpsichord. Per the liner notes, ten programmes are planned, so I'm assuming that means there are five discs a-comin'.
