WOW!! Mch sound is fantastic!! Vivid and full... while keeping a nice ambience. Wonderful music making as well.

The Stenz Mahler Symphony 7, heard only in two-channel on my equipment, is no bargain in spaciousness or delineation of instruments in portraying a concert
hall atmosphere. Admittedly my Fried C4 satellite speakers with newly replaced Hiquaphon tweeters are not "forgiving" when it comes to closely miked violins.
And the result, particularly in the opening of the first movement, shows overly
bright, grainy sounds. In my collection of Mahler 7s I have two CDs that will
show up the Stenz SACD for what it is, an overrated recording: the no.1 choice
is that of Riccardo Chailly conducting the Royal Concertgebouw. Ambience aplenty
and a dynamic interpretation. But for what a SACD should sound like in hall sound
and smoothness of strings the best I've heard is the Andrian Leaper on the Arte Nova label. If it is available, buy it! Oh, I haven't forgotten to comment on
Stenz's conducting. Dull, soporific. Lacks enlivening inflection and passion.
For those who have equalizers and analytical loudspeakers, dip 9 to 12dB, from about 1kHz to 5 kHz, to make the too bright strings o the Stenz sound tolerable.

Maybe you should replace your speakers, as on my system Stenz 7 sounds absolutely marvelous in two-channel; no problem with "spaciousness" or "delineation of instruments" at all. Your comparison to a couple of redbooks (Chailly's excellence notwithstanding) is incredulous. On this site, it would have been helpful if you compared to other available SACDs (and there are plenty).
And to call Stenz's reading soporific is hardly appropriate: his reading stands up to scrutiny compared to the best (Gielen, Kubelik, both Abbado's etc.).

is this the Leaper you mean? If the review linked to below is anything to go by, it's hardly preferable to Stenz. This is what John J. Puccio writes on his blog re the reissue of the Leaper:

"The dynamic range and impact could be stronger, clarity greater, bass deeper, and resonance less. So, while the sonics are not at all bad, they are, like Leaper’s performance, sort of middle-of-the-road. Even the cowbells sound barely audible in the distance."

Right. I am loath to criticize someone's speakers, especially if they are old and/or unusual, but this sounds good to me on both my systems.

Hardly unexpected, as the poster freely admits that his satellite speakers are fried.

Actually, they are Fried. Had he said they were fried, he would deserve all the opprobrium. :-)
