I got mine last week in the mail and turned off all the lights shut off the world for 40 mins and sat and was amazed by the Soundscape of this SACD.....

I am very familiar with the soundtrack and the movie and am sure I am hearing new things...not sure if this is just the quality of the mix and its inherent unhiding things ?

either way I love it too......think it is exceptional

My pal has the vinyl version and says it is totally amazing.......

I bet the Vinyl has a higher DR score than the SACD !

Anyone know ?

Here's for the SA-CD :

But no clue regarding the vinyl. I will add that vinyl scores are often cheated on that website : many scores are superior than 20. Even some of them have a score of 27/20. How can that be ? I think that's because digital discs are swept and scanned by the software (no way to cheat), wheareas analog formats as vinyl have to be played and real-time-analyzed through RCA connectors. Some vinyl fetishists and extremists surely played with their amp's equalizers to radically boost some frequencies and exceed the thoretical DR limits set by the software for the format...
Format war is everywhere, it begins with listeners who want to see their format proven superior.

** ADDITIONAL INFORMATION **

Checking again the above mentionned DR scores, I just relalized these are measurements done on the CD layer of the hybrid disc... unless the "44100 Hz / 16 bits" information indicates a bad downsampling of the HD layer, which should be done at least in 88.2/24. If so, that would mean this DR score does not reflect the real dynamics of this sublime SA-CD.

Anyone willing to put a copy on the benchmark to check that ? I never did it myself for any title, and I am too lazy anyway :-)

I don't think Audio Fidelity would compress the CD layer more than the SA-CD layer (if compression was involved at all during the mastering). The DR value of both is most likely the same.

DR13 is very good for this type of music, and it's the highest DR value among the CD reissues.

Received the disc yesterday, and for the most part love it. One thing does bug me, with this and many other soundtracks, and that is the inclusion of dialogue from the film. If I'm not watching the movie, the dialogue references nothing, and does nothing to enhance the listening experience. I wouldn't fail to recommend the disc because of it, but it is a distraction. Maybe I'm a screwball for feeling that way, but so it goes.

I agree. It is ironic because there was a similar problem with Deckard's narration in the film. Ridley Scott didn't want it, but the studio added it to the initial release. Scott eventually got his way and the narration was taken out in subsequent versions of the film.

And if one is privy to the remastered BD~V Blade Runner movie ( Dolby True HD 24 bit/48 5.1 surround), ironically, the voice overs sound resplendent and not as diffuse~sounding as on the remastered AF SACD.

And even more ironic, one can purchase the current Digibook of Blade Runner containing 5 cuts of the movie on 3 BD discs for a paltry $15.00!!!!!!!!!!!!

This way, you can have it ALL!

Yeah! They really need to do more with these SACDs. I have nothing against those who are using 2-channel only, but...

Come on!! How about giving us a Mch Mix to go along with the 2-channel mix?? After all this is a Hybrid SACD, isn't it!!?

And... This music is CRYING OUT for the full surround treatment!!

Audio Fidelity has never released a multichannel SACD and because they license their masters from the majors, it is unlikely that they ever will.

Am highly anticipating the BD~A/RBCD of Yes' Close To The Edge (which I have on pre~order along with XTC Nonsuch) as I was VERY disappointed with the stereo only SACD of the Yes classic.

Yes, there is room galore on hybrid SACDs to accomodate a mch layer but it seems that the majors are unwilling to commit the extra investment to create mch masters from scratch!

Thank God for the Steve Wilsons of the world. And for those individual artists willing to "upgrade" to multichannel because the conglomerates have NO interest in doing so.
