This player is too old for guaranty.

Have you successfully played SA-CDs with it before ? I mean : is it a newly occuring problem, or were you trying to play SA-CDs for the first time ?

I bought a used DVD, SACD after purchase does not work.
Really dont know why? Maybe is samething wrong with PCB?

Could be hundreds of things, possibilities are too many. As sad as it is, it seems this used player is a rip off. Its seller certainly knew it couldn't play SA-CDs.

Hello
I bought a used Yamaha S2500 player, but does not read the SACD. After you insert a disc SACD Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon, playing a CD layer only, and it is not possible to change the SACD layer of the remote control by pressing the Sound Mode. I decided to replace the laser (SF-HD60) and at the same tie, the lack of results. All other CDs, DVD-Video/Audio are read, of course, the cables are plugged in analog (HDMI SPDIF 1.1vi are not compatible with SACD).
Has anyone encountered a similar problem at home, or know what I can do?
Please help me.

I don't have any experience with this player, but I wonder whether something like a software upgrade was ever available for your particular player. This might be worth investigating - perhaps by contacting Yamaha.

I mention this, as my present player - an Arcam DV137 - which I bought brand new in December 2006, displayed quite a few odd traits at first, one of which was plenty of "bad disc" messages. Oddly enough, this was mainly with SACDs. I'm now on probably my 4th or 5th firmware version, each upgrade bringing with it an improvement.

You might also like to have a look on other Forums, where equipment is more often discussed.

do you have the owners manual.if not this is how my denon works with i link and analog out on sacd. if I link is on only 2 channel analog works.if you dont have mch analog you can test all the channels with the 2 channel analog on the rec. from the yamahas mch analog out put. hdmi v2 was the start of mch out put.

Ps on playing p.f. dark side my denon does not say on the tv if its mch sacd but the rec does. playing in the onkyo it does say it on the tv. I use di link on the denon & analog out on the onkyo. I hope this helps you to get the sacd mch to work.

You mention that you have changed the laser on this player yourself, I am wondering if the replacement laser was the correct one, ie will it read SACD or is the replacement just one that is " compatible " with a number of Yamaha DVD disc players thus still allowing DVD video and CDs to read correctly but not SACD? Given that SACD playback represents a relatively small number of users overall, perhaps the replacement lasers for these are cheaper DVD/CD only types which would, for most users be perfectly acceptable? Just a thought?

The reason I ask is a search on Ebay for replacement laser for this model also lists it is compatible with other Yamaha DVD players, namely DVD-E600,E540 and DVR-120/150 ( none of which are sacd capable incidently ) so my assumption is that the replacement you have fitted will only read DVD/CD media

if your player has analog out. play the p.f. disc on the rear channels on the 2 channel input on rec. if you have no mch inputs. mess with the players settings to get sound. thats the only way I know of to see if the mch works on sacd. its not hard to do. im not posting any more so some one else can help.

I guess it should work then, but I find it strange that only SACD isnt working. Was the S2500 able to play SACDs prior to changing the laser or is this the very reason why you changed the laser in the first place?. I can only assume that if it didnt play SACD prior to changing the laser assembly then something else is causing the problem, neither of which is the set up or laser aspect. I suspect given the age of the player you would be financially better off simply replacing it with either another model second hand ( the old universal Denons or Oppos can be bought cheaply )or perhaps invest in a brand new budget Blu ray player with SACD/HDMI output ( the more recent Sony Blu ray players are competitively priced )
