There's plenty of blu-ray players that support SACD. Aside from nearly all the recent Sony models, what about the Pioneer BDP-150?

I have an Oppo 93 and love it, but there are a substantial number of cheaper players.

You need to double check these settings on your Sony blu-ray player:

Audio Settings -> Audio (HDMI) -> Auto
DSD Output Mode -> On
Downmix -> Stereo

Music Settings -> Super Audio CD Playback Layer -> Super Audio CD
Super Audio CD Playback Channel -> DSD Multi

I have a Sony blu-ray player connected to an Onkyo receiver and have not run into any of the sort of trouble you're encountering. But if these settings aren't exactly right it can lead to all sorts of problems, without any indication why.

If you can source a Cambridge Audio DVD99 from the likes of Ebay that will happily stream DSD/ converted PCM at 88.2Khz to your receiver via HDMI and shouldnt cost the earth. You'll also have the capability to play back DVD Audio too should that be of interest to you futher down the line.
Incidently, have you tried connecting your Sony Blu ray player to any of the other receivers 3 HDMI inputs, I know it shouldnt make any difference but its worth a try.
OK I am sure you have already done all this but check the following:

On your Sony Blu ray player set HDMI to " Auto " and set DSD Output mode to PCM just in case the issue is incompatibility with pure DSD coming down the HDMI to your receiver ( all recievers will accept PCM ). Set DSD to Multichannel ( and ensure the SACD you are listening to has a multichannel mix of course ^ _ ^ ).
Try disconnecting the Video display from your reciever so all you have is this Sony connected to your amp via HDMI and no HDMI going to your TV, I dont know if your TV or receiver support ARC ( audio return channel ) but you never know if that is causing some incompatibility or not.
Ensure both reciever and blu ray player have the latest firmware installed.
Check to see if " control for HDMI " ( Bravia Sync ) being switched to "on" or "off" makes any difference ( be aware that you need to power off and re power on to save that setting ).

Assuming all the above is set correctly there shouldnt be any reason why it shouldnt work other than just an unfortunate incompatibilty issue. best of luck : )

Thanks guys those are awesome suggestions.
I have tried some, but not all of them.
I will try them tomorrow and follow up.
I cant believe Sony removed SACD from THE PS3, seems odd since they
actually invented SACD.
But I guess it was a cost cutting thing.

It's been more remarkable that they put SACD in PS3 in the first place. They removed it after the second hardware iteration i.e. after about 8 millions units, like you say because of cost cutting. The PS3 was simply way too expensive, and SACD was a luxury Sony Computer Entertainment could no longer afford, since the overlap between gamers and audiophiles turned out to be marginal.

In case you missed it, there's a site about SACD and PS3 with a dedicated FAQ. It explains the above in more detail but moreover contains a troubleshooting section that just might hold the answer to your query.

.........

So I purchased the Sony s590 3d blu ray player, this is a multichannel sacd player according to Sony and the manual.
Each time I connect this player and put an sacd in it give me the message NO SOUND WILL BE OUTPUT TO A DEVICE VIA HDMI, and a warning sign.
I have spent the best part of 24 hours t shooting this with sony, and they cant resolve it because it either forces my Onkyo rec into stereo or wont play any sound at all.
So I went out this morning and purchased an ONKYO SACD from FRY's, and low and behold that machine is only sacd stereo and does not have sacd multichannel option.
So at this point I am looking for advice.
I am pretty sure my sr805 is not the reason this Sony machine isn't working since its DSD and worked fine with the PS3.
Can anyone give me a cheap work around ? so I can pick something up that will support multichannel.
Thanks in Advance.
Stuart

One essential bit of information you should be aware of, is that video output resolution must be set to at least 720p for any universal player to output multi-channel DSD bitstream. Any video output less than that (such as SD 480i/p - 576i/p) will output 2-channel audio only.

Ok so thanks guys once again for all the feedback and help with this.
So I tried all the different settings, and the issue is the tv.
So if I have the tv connected via HDMI to my Onkyo SR805 the sound goes.
The moment I disconnect the HDMI cord from HDMI out on my ONKYO to my LG3DTV, the sounds comes right back, and I see DSD on my receiver which actually is something I never have seen before, even while using my old PS3 it just used to say HDMI THROUGH.
So now I have identified the issue other than leaving my HDMI cord disconnected from HDMI out on my Onkyo to LG tv anything else I can do to get around this?
Maybe a setting in my Onkyo or LG tv?

talisman954, had the same problem with my Onkyo receiver and OPPO in my bedroom. If you access the Onkyo menu, turn the HDMI out OFF.....you will get no picture going to your TV but you'll get DSD on the Onkyo and multichannel......my OPPO has dual HDMI out......one goes directly into the TV and the other into the Onkyo. If you want to reinstate the HDMI out to on, you have to use the receiver's front panel to do so with the remote.

There must be some way around this ridiculous mess but it's a "handshake" HDMI issue between the receiver and the TV.

Agreed its crazy
I love my Onkyo I don't want to upgrade just for this.
But I might have to

I have encountered similar but not as severe problems with a Marantz/Oppo set up. If the TV is turned on the audio signal will turn itself off and on (DSD over HDMI). 99% of the time if the tv is off the problem does not occur but 1% it does! Unplugging the HDMI to the tv completely overcomes the problem. The order in which the components are turned on also seems to be crucial. Incidentally (and fortunately) there is no sign of the problem if playing DVD or Blu-ray. I have come to the conclusion that it is a 'handshake' issue but I can live with it by doing what I outlined above.
