Styx: Paradise Theater Hybrid SACD Stereo
Quick Facts: A concept album, the 10th for Styx, released in 1981. I saw Styx during this tour at The Cow Palace, in 1981. I remember an elaborate stage and the giant keyboards left side of stage, after that it's a little fuzzy. My AF disc #0636 released in 2014.
Performance: Great. Lots of fun, good radio hits. A mix of good vocals and musicians. They are sound and performance cousins to Supertramp. As many concept performance disc's go, some of the songs can be weak but the more I listened they become catchy. I think my favorite tune is The Best Of Times.
Stereo Sonics: I listened at 73 decibels, PCM 88.2Khz. HDMI. Really good. Kevin Gray who does a lot of work for Audio Fidelity did a superb job. The sound is very warm and solid. Great balance between speakers. All the things I listen for drums, cymbals, vocals, all resonate well. Track 6 with the opening of rain, violin and dialogue is great. Space between tracks is clear and sharp. Center ghost speaker is perfect.
Packaging: Typical Audio Fidelity package with outer cardboard and plastic jewel case, original liner notes and all lyrics with mastering notes from AF, albeit brief.
I really enjoy hybrid SACD's as I can listen to them in the car which I have probably done 60% of my music listening my entire life.
Really good disc and I am glad I have it.
