Discussion: Styx: Paradise Theater

Styx was one of my sister's favorite bands back in the day, and I have to admit loving Tommy Shaw's contributions to the band. I wish they would make amends with Dennis, but that's another story.

This album begins what I hope will be releases of the other classic albums.

I am thinking about this as a purchase, but these songs are overplayed in my mind having heard them a million times over the years.

I also saw this tour, Paradise Theater, when Styx played at the Cow Palace, San Francisco, actually Daly City, back in whenever.

Actually, AF nailed this remaster. Sounds awesome. Highly Recommended!

Need I say more?

OK, FD. I think I will. Because I did see them live back in the day and it was a pretty incredible show. I looked to see when this was originally released, Jan 1981, so I would have saw them in 81.

Looking at this site, there is 1 review for SHM SACD and our best friend Rammiepie reviews this AF version as good but no opinion on the SHM.

The hybrid is $26.00 Amazon and the SHM is $36.00 CDJapan.

So, I just clicked Amazon.

Not that I'm going to stick my neck out having NEVER heard the SHM~SACD, but AF did a spectacular job with this particular title. I'd personally opt for the AmazonUS offering.

You won't be sorry, Markie.

You are going to love Paradise Theater on SACD. It's the REAL thing. Well, almost!

"Well, almost"

That is how I would put it. Very good and I enjoyed it. For a concept album it is one of those that has either great songs or duds.

Sonically I would give it 8 of 10. Need to listen again. After I listened to this I listened to the HFPA new Marvin Gaye, 5.1, stunning.

Of course, if Paradise Theater was remixed into 5.1 I'm sure it WOULD be a 10.

I have the Gaye classic on DVD~A 5.1....agreed, a 10!
