My copy came with Dad Loves His Work from musicdirect late November. There had been criticisms of this sacd version from other music forums for reasons that are unclear to me. Okay, I may be biased because I'm a JT fan but even a casual listener will not consider this album as a "light effort". The opener Company Man is an energetic tune that pushes you to continue with the rest of the album. Brother Trucker is a lively rocker that never fails to jolt me when I'm sleepy. A fusion of pop, funk and R&B with a catchy melody characterize Is That The Way You Look. B.S.U.R. and Up On The Roof are two of my all time favorites. The latter, IMO, is even better than the original (Carole's). Rainy Day Man is a reworked and better version since it first appeared on his self-titled debut album. Storytelling has always been a JT forte and Millworker is no exception, but in this instance with a nice melody and superb finger picking. The only lowdown for me is his version of Day Tripper, which, IMO again, failed to give justice to the upbeat Beatles' song.

I will consider this sacd generally as lively and punchy, with solid and robust bass and enough warmth that didn't veil, but rather highlight the important details. My only other version of this album is the old WB release, which although not bad sounding, is totally surpassed by it in terms of sound quality. Gladly recommended to all JT fans.

MoFi's stereo SACD version is FINE. It sounds slightly better than the RBCD... a little fuller sound, but honestly not much better. However, if it's $15 for a RBCD or $22 for this SACD, I'd definitely pay the extra $7. Now I'm just waiting for Columbia's 5.1 surround SACD version to arrive in the mail - fingers crossed it's a Major upgrade. I've got high hopes because this is my favorite James Taylor album and the song "Sleep Come Free Me" might be my favorite song of his.

Compared to other EXCELLENT SACD's, like all of Elton John's & Pink Floyd's sacd's (all 5* IMO), I'd give this sacd 2.5*... fine.
