Performance: Sonics: |
Wonderful music conjuring up pastoral England before four wheel drives and second homes. Sound generally very good with wide dynamic range and lush string tone, although the orchestra sounds a little constrained particularly in the Tallis Fantasia, and there is audible background noise in quieter passages. Solo instruments very realistic. A quick read of the cover is a bit misleading - looking at "P & C 2004" you might think the performance is modern (if you were unfamiliar with the artist, like me) but in fact these are 40 year old recordings. This disc might not perhaps justify a premium price but if you can find it for reasonable money, you are unlikely to be disappointed.
