Two additional things to mention about this recording, following on from Oyster's review.

Firstly, as oyster notes, this is a 40 year old recording, but audiophiles and multi-channelers please note that this was originally recorded in Quad by Vanguard so the 4.0 sound is "authentic".

Secondly, half of the material on this disc (Flos Campi and Dives and Lazarus, from memory) can be found on a cheap Silverline DVD-Audio ALSO featuring a very, very good performance of the RVW 6th PLUS an equally good performance of Donna Nobis Pacem. That DVD-Audio can be found on amazon.co and elsewhere very cheaply, about £4.50 from marketplace sellers, - so if you have dvd-a capability you needn't be put off by the crazy prices quoted on amazon and elsewhere for the SACD - the DVDA is miles cheaper, equally good sound, is a good 30 minutes longer and there's less duplication with other SACDs involved.

Either way, enjoy. B

Vaughan Williams: Orchestral Works - Abravanel

Many thanks to Dutchman, - he's highlighted that the same SACD - but with a different cover to the high priced disc which springs up alongside oyster's review - is apparently still available as cheaply as the dvd-a. Just click on the link dutchman has provided. Either way, you can't go wrong, - its a great DVD-A and a fine SACD. B
