Andrew Litton's Mendelssohn cycle with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra got many acclaimed awards - such as BBC Music Magazine's "Award for Technical Excellence".
Litton's interpretation of Mendelssohn's famous "Italian" Symphony is very good. This is my first SACD of the work. I have also Haitink's recording with London Symphony Orchestra (Philips) but this is much better.
The total time - 28 minutes and 6 seconds - is almost the same than Haitink's. But the orchestra's virtuosity is here impressing. Tempi are mostly very fast - for example in the first movement - and BIS label's engineering team captures Grieg Hall's acoustics perfectly to the 5.0 surround sound. Wonderful addition to your SACD library!
