Got this one today, and have only spent about 2 hours with it.
This SACD is hot!! Extremely well recorded. And the difference between the CD and SACD layer is tremendous.
The SACD version is smooth, clean, and dynamic. At times, the harmonics of certain instruments come through. The CD layer sounds -- well -- like a CD.
I don't have the CD of this album to compare, but this SACD sounds better than I remember the album sounding.
In addition, the 20 page book, with readable print and photos, appears to be completely different from Lost Chord's booklet. Someone put a lot of effort into these releases.
And this SACD has 19 bonus cuts.
I'm very happy with this one. By the way, my SACD player is stereo, so I do not know how the 5.1 layer sounds.
Unlike In Search of the Lost Chord, this album cover does indicate that this has a 5.1 SACD layer. In Search, which in stereo only, does not indicate that it is a hybrid SACD on the cover.
Follow-up (5 days later): I've now listened to this 2 times on my SACD player and 2 times in my car. I like it more everyday. I just increased the performance rating by one notch.
It's an enjoyable, smooth, well-recorded SACD. I even like listening to the CD layer in my car.
Note that the Bonus disc is not a SACD. Still, I found the bonus CD well recorded and interesting. It's worth a couple extra dollars for the bonus disc.

I listen to this with head phones alot as it is extremely dynamic and can get loud when using my regular speakers. I can't help it...this music is so timeless and classic............and the album is so exraordinary.
We all got really lucky that 6 of the Moody Blues first sacds's were released. Days of Future Passed is not only my favourite Moody Blues album but one of my all time greatest rock albums. Who among us can claim that it;s not an all time great recording???
Okay how does it sound??? Incredible...... powerful, rich, musical, dynamic. warm, a three dinensional quality where voices and instruments stand out in relief. The mastering of this sacd was done very well and does not sound digital in the least. It is a recording of great substance and weight.
Just a word of warning though. I have heard compliants that some compression was used in mastering this sacd. This might explain it's loudness at certain times especially when the music gets really powerful. Tuesday Afternoon has powerful, thudding bass that gets fairly deep so watch out. I would still siggest raising the volume a tad as this album is not back ground music. Rather its something to get involved in and experience.
There is so much joy in this music and alot of mystery too. The orchestra sounds like a real orchestra and the singing is rendered top notch. Nights in white satin is particularly emotional to hear and Mr. Haywards voice is very emotional. I have not heard this song ever sound so good.
If this is one of your favourites from the rock era.....c'mon.....buy it. You will be very happy you did. It's a terrific sacd.

I have the remastered CD and the Deluxe edition CD/SACD set and I must agree with the other 2 reviews above that the SACD is a SUPER-LEAP ahead in terms of sound quality. I heard things on the SACD playback that I had never heard before.
Crystal clear SACD mastering with some pretty awesome speaker separation !
Highly recommend this to loves of the album.

| I have all the Moody Blues’ SACDs, and while I think they’re far better than any RBCD I’ve heard, I’m not blown away by them. The sound is a little on the bright side for me, though they are very detailed and have great bass. Vocals are clean and clear, and instruments are well delineated, but there’s something vaguely antiseptic about the sound. Overall, they’re pretty good, I guess, but they could’ve been better. Maybe an audiophile company like MFSL will do the catalog in hi-rez one day. That would be pretty cool indeed. But, for now, these Deluxe Edition SACDs do the job.

| Stereo review only. I found this SACD to be quite disappointing, but then I found the MFSL audiophile CD a little disappointing too. This SACD is EQ'd thin and bright, to the extent that by about track 3 I've had enough and can't listen any further. It's not "Pet-Sounds-DVD-A-ear-bleedingly bright" but it's still not warm enough for my tastes. I suspect the source tapes may be on the bright side as the MFSL is a little peaky too. On the plus side, there's no evidence of over-zealous mastering compression, but the SACD still sounds less punchy than the MFSL, and certainly sounds like a small step backwards to me.

| I bought this when it was originally released and i have the album on LP and i will be selling my copy as in 2ch its boring it has'nt any wow factor for me and will be sticking with the LP. I just can't recommend it and i wish i never bought it. My advice is stick with the LP! Good album but just didnt do anything for me in sacd.
