This was always one of my favorite Moody Blues albums. I have the Quad 4 track tapes and always thought they were good, but not as open as they should be. I am extremely happy with the sound and mix on these. Don't expect much to happen in the center or subwoofer, I think they stayed pretty on line with the quad version, with obvious improvements. I recommend this to anyone, it's sure to bring back memories. The balance and play of the rears is excellent. It's hard to believe it's 35 years old, hell of a job. It shows how good Quad really was.

I bought all five SACDs and have been a Moody Blues fan since the late 1960's.

The engineers kept these SACDs as close to the original sound as they could. As a result, the emphasis is on the bass, vocals, and a smoooooth sound.

The vocals, bass guitar, and mid-range are outstanding. Better than the record, in my opinion. The SACD is dynamic and makes the CD sound flat. And everything is smoooooth. The instruments stand out. On the CD, I have difficulty telling the instuments from one another.

Being true to the original, in most cases, the drums are muted. It's as if they are behind the curtain. And the trebble is smooth, but drops off way to early. I guess the engineers wanted that smoooooth sound.

Definitely my favorite out of the core 7 Moodys albums. It strikes a good balance between the psychedelic and progressive without getting too heavy with either. Now, my gripe is with the mastering. Not only did they master this too loud (which not only ruins the musical dynamics, but also causes ear fatigue) they also added noise reduction on top of that (which sucks the life out of the music). So basically another classic has been ruined by modern trends in mastering. Very sad.

"On The Threshold Of A Dream" is one of my all time favorite albums! And what better way to enjoy it than on SACD eh !

Once again this SACD is taken from the quadraphonic mix masters recorded in 1969 and the sound is breathtaking......The voices are very clearly defined as is the instrumentation with a nice deep rich sound.

Musically this album is dreamy and deeply rich with lots of mellotron and vocal harmonies.

I would highly recommend this album to all lovers of The Moody Blues.
