Reviews: Prokofiev: Humoresque Scherzo etc. - Prague Wind Quintet

Reviews: 2

Performance:   Sonics:
I really cannot recommend this disc. I find the recording dull and the performances routine. I expected the wind transcriptions of the Romeo and Juliet music might be fun but after a couple of pieces I just wondered why bother? The two piano version of the 'Classical' symphony is done better by Argerich and Dina(EMI). The Quintet is given a more lively performance by Wakao and her friends from the Boston Symphony Orchestra and is considerably better recorded (Pentatone). However what really put me off this disc was the performance of the Overture on Hebrew Themes. The sharp accents near the start of the work are either deliberately under played or the engineers have suppressed them. I suspect that the engineers are to blame as there seems to be a sudden suppression at this moment and then a recovery of the sound level. In fact I find the whole disc seems generally under dynamic.

Sonics:
I'll not discuss on performance but I don't agree at all with the sonics level of the first review.
