Well, the review by Krisjan is SO perfect in the description of the sound and the performance that I am probably not adding much to his. Anyway, I have just ended listening to the SACD (IN STEREO ONLY) and I stayed in awe after it finished. Everything is done right! And both pieces are among the most beautiful Mendelssohn composed. The slow movements are unique in their depth. I also kept wondering why these SACDs are not the first in a long series of collaborations between BIS and the Mendelssohn Quartet. Yes, I have read Robert Von Bahr's words about being SONY who helped them finance the recordings by these quartet. But as I understand they were recorded at Lana Church in Sweden by BIS producers/engineers, I wondered if it won't be possible to begin a series of recordings by this quartet, now auto/financed by the label. Mozart, Haydn or even more Mendelssohn would be welcome, in this level of performances and sound quality. I agree, the sound is THE BEST string quartet/quintet I have EVER heard, even better than Prague, Harmonia Mundi, etc. The rendition of the sound of the violins is PERFECT. So BRAVO! and a question for Bissie, why not more? Juan Hitters, Buenos Aires
