Performance:   Sonics:
In a word this disc is fabulous! I know it was recorded in the round but that tells me minimal miking was used for the 2 channel mix (I'm a 2 channel guy) and this recording shows it. Very good transfer (is Sony getting better at this with their legacy discs?). I have always loved the Boulez performance, more measured than the highly respected Dorati on Mercury. The sound of the hall is very good, nice decay, transients are maintained very well (lots of transients here). Again the timbre of the woodwinds are just right, which is my particular benchmark for a good sacd. With Bartok being one of my favorite composers I couldn't miss on this one. And I didn't IMO.
Highly recommended.
