Performance: Sonics: |
Indeed, the music is fantastic, but the performance and the recording are not. Listen to the original recording of 1971 by Bernstein himself and then you feel what this mix of classic, jazz, blues... really means. Nagano is a good conductor, but he has no feeling for that kind of music (tempi, balance between rock-group and orchestra, rubato...). Also the recording is very much beneath the level of the previous recording. Many deatails are lost, the sound is not transparant. I hope they once make a SA-edition of the original recording, because for the live-performance of the work Bernstein already used surround-effects, bij playing pre-recorded tapes in quadrofonie.
