Performance:   Sonics:
Being a fan of Nick Drake, I was a bit shaken by this disc. At first, I was disappointed because it's more jazz than blues in an avant-garde kinda style. But as I listened, it became clear the various musicians were truly paying tribute to his ingenuity and unique style. Let's face it, his music is difficult to classify. These artists provide a backdrop to that uniqueness and take the listener in directions previously unimagined. It can be a little jarring at first, but the essence of Drake's form and purpose shines through. By the 3rd or 4th track I was enjoying it. By the end I could not help but wonder if it might have made him smile. The musicianship and recording are superb, the style is unique (if not in the folk tradition), and overall this disc is worth a listen whether you like Nick Drake or not.
