| I purchased this organ SACD not really knowing very much about the composers or the organist, but only b/c I worked for an organist for some time and wanted to have some good organ peices for reminiscence sake. However, I feel unqualified to review it as a musical piece. My uneducated impressions are that the music can be somewhat 20th century and reminds me of some works of french composer Palounc (though I do not beleive he ever wrote organ pieces). Some pieces are ethereal and calm, while others are very dramatic. But, like I said before, I really don't know much about this type of music. However, I can review its sonic properties having been acquianted with a number of different types or organs in the past. The soundstage is detailed and spacious. You get a sense of the massive proportions of the cathedral where the organ was recorded. The detail is very good. You can hear the chiff of the valves opening loudly (Perhaps it is a tracker organ). Overtones of the krummhorn and trumpets don't sound shrill and have a natural exuberance and tone, while purer-sounding stops, such as the flutes and quintadens sound soft and airy. Overall, the recording sounds very balanced and spacious. It is also very dynamic. A good recording overall.

I'm not sure why this disc, one of the original SACD releases almost ten years ago, hasn't garnered more notice, comments, or support here. It features enjoyable music, not really all that "20th century" in structure or tonality, in a superb recording of a performance by an eminent organist who studied directly under one of the composers, playing one of the most spectacular instruments in the world.
I don't like all Telarc recordings, but this one really deserves your attention if you value stunning dynamics and beautiful sound. Every growl and whisper is faithfully reproduced, and the sense of being in a real space is thoroughly convincing.
Instead of spending fifty bucks for mediocre pop music that wasn't recorded well to begin with in the hope that something new will be magically revealed by the umpteenth remastering, why not plunk down a few dollars on an excellent DSD recording that provides a genuine new thrill? You will certainly be impressed with the sonic splendor, and after listening to it a few times you'll comprehend the music and probably enjoy it thoroughly.
