John Mayall's "Along for the Ride" SACD is well worth the investment! Excellent Blues mastered skillfully to SACD by Steve Hoffman ...what else can you ask for.
I will admit that I am not always a big fan of the all-star album format as many time they turn out to be less that they could have been. Fortunately this is NOT the case here as we are treated to some great blues performed with great skill and emotion from a cost who seem to really work well with Mayall. "Along for the Ride" is made up of 13 tracks all recorded with a slightly different cast and feature all new songs (except for the tune "California") which makes this collection even more addictive.
Contributors include: Peter Green, Mick Taylor, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood, Gary Moore, Chris Rea, Dick Heckstall-Smith, Andy Fairweather Low, Otis Rush, Jeff Healey, Steve Cropper, Billy Preston, Billy Gibbons, Jonny Lang, Steve Miller & Davey Graham.
With all this talent at hand you might think that Mayall would be overpowered at perhaps the cost of the blues musically, but again this is not the case. Mayall does let his stars shine but they are careful to stay within the lines!
A highly enjoyable disc and a great SACD treatment. If you are a fan of blues rock then I would highly recommend this disc to you
