Reviews: Oscar Peterson: Travelin' On

Performance:   Sonics:
The opener is one of those 100 notes a second tunes, where OP hardly stops and personally I do not find that as appealing anymore. It's OK if you're hearing it for the first time, but after a while it becomes somewhat 'art for art's sake'. However, do not despair :-), 'Quiet Nights and Quiet Stars' and 'When Lights are Low' are the highlights on this disc. The first has a infectuous rhythmn and the second an easy shuffle. Try to keep still with these I challenge you!

The sound is amongst the best there is and the atmosphere is relaxed.

Recommended.

I am at variance with most of the opinions on OP "Travelin On" also the "Mellow mood" and "Action".
I agree the sound is good, but for this listener it ends there.
The wonderful sound of the piano is not suited to OP's jazz style and the cloistered atmosphere seems to inhibit his playing.I feel he is more at home in the recording studio with his own musicians.
His many standard cds are more entertaining.I wonder what his reaction would be if he were able to read this critique?
