Performance:   Sonics:
Sometimes I'm glad when I do not know too much about the history of performances. This was given to me as a gift. I only know of Scarlatti through the movie Mozart! This SACD has left a fantastic first impression however! Maybe my audio system is just set up better than most, but again, as with all of the SACDs that I own (not a lot but adding up), the sound stage is huge and the dynamic contrasts in the music are incredible. The nuances and subtle changes in voice and instruments that you can hear, allow you to really "hear the music," to really "get" the performance, intellectually and emotionally. I fell in love with the voice of Laurence Zazzo. The Griselda of Dorothea Röschmann (soprano) is spellbinding. I like to play this performance for my friends (well, have only done this once so far), because I know they do not like opera, and then they are left dumbfounded. It is an excellent recording, and the performance is terrific. Sure, listen before you buy, but even if you do not, I do not think you will regret it. Top notch.
