Sometimes I'm glad when I do not know too much about the history of performances. This was given to me as a gift. I only know of Scarlatti through the movie Mozart! You can read my review of Szell's Symphony 2 and 4, and I aplogize for basically saying the same thing, but bottom line, stick with Szell and SACD. Bought both this and Symphonies 1 and 3. What I like most about both Symphonies is the emotional content of the music. While the SACD recording allows you to hear detail, the whole of the music is what moves me. I am no expert, but is seems that Szell really captures the intent of Schumann. Weber's ... more |

WOW. This is Rossini, Auber and Berlioz done right. Just listen to Overture to La scala di seta (The Silken Ladder) and Overture to L'italiana in Algeri (The Italian Girl in Algiers).
