This Chandos' SACD release is second volume of Holst's orchestral works series. I heard many recordings of Holst's "The Planets" (Vladimir Jurowski (LPO), Sir Colin Davis (LSO), Sir Simon Rattle (Emi Classics, now Warner) and this SACD is very good. Well, I don't like this. I have two recordings of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, Op. 49 (Kuchar(Naxos), Pletnev (DG)) and this isn't good performance. 1) Gergiev's tempi are too slow: the lyrical second theme is too hurry. I enjoyed Osmo Vänskä's Beethoven cycle with Minnesota Orchestra, and now this superb team continues with Bruckner's Fourth Symphony in E flat major "Romantic".
