I had an original cd, which I sold long ago when I got the 20th anniversary SACD and became enamored with the surround. Was really surprised to see this title chosen for the SACD format, sort of an offbeat artist and Excitable Boy never struck me as an audiophile work. What a pleasant surprise it turned out to be! My favorite Rush title...have owned since it first came out on LP, a cassette tape for the car, then eventually the Mercury CD in the 80,s. I can pretty much sing along with every word.
I have compared my AF Hemispheres SACD layer to the old Mercury CD, and the AF is better, albeit only slightly. ... more |

This SACD is a really good Low Budget purchase. Music-wise, I would rate half the songs as very good. A little dated with the lyrical content, but that sorta takes you back to the time it was released. Sonically it is pretty tight, especially on the low end. I have been a Yes fan since this album was originally released, so I was excited to enjoy their titles in SA-CD glory. Unfortunately GFTO is a slight disappointment.
