The guy who wrote 'Moanin' with Art Blakey and 'This here' with Cannonball Adderley. That's partly who Bobby Timmons was. This is wonderful piano jazz. For many this is the recording pinacle in the LS series. My take is that it is indeed in the top 5 of the discs I have heard (I own 16). But it cannot score full stars in my view. 'They' say that Van Gelder could not record piano properly. That's is really too bad for Tommy Flanagan here as his excellent playing is covered under a fairly sizeable sonic blanket. I have heard this now on different systems. Tube and solid state. Revealing and not so revealing. Maybe if you have honeycomb drivers, still dripping with honey ... but, trust me, it's bright :-). Posting a sonic addendum to Ramesh' wonderful review I can say that based on my listening experience I am rating the sound a little higher.
