I agree with the glowing reviews here with one minor (or major) caveat, and that has to do with the recording. This is something Channel has acknowledged, and it may or may not bother you. I bought this with great hope, but it just doesn't quite get there in most ways. There is some good playing and singing, but it doesn't seem to catch fire at any time. Soloists the same. Nice voices but not anything like the intensity that is needed, and that is supplied in many other versions, ... more |

I bought this disc for two reasons: its DVD roots (wanted to hear something recorded this way), and the reviews here that pursuaded me that it might be interesting. Unfortunately, however, I find this very dissapointing. The piano playing is OK, but the orchestral playing is really pretty ordinary. ... more |

Unbelievably fine performances and SACD multichannel recording. Even if you are not an organ fan, or a Buxtehude fan I would challenge anyone not to be blown away by the final track on this great SACD! |
