An absolute delight. This is perhaps one of my favorite recordings on SACD. The sound is rich and full, the horn playing technically correct and assured. This is my first introduction to the Pentatone label and if the others recordings are anything like this one, I'll be back for more.

I found the recording of the Overtures to actually be more compelling than the Symphony itself. The sound is more enveloping and the performances full of joy and spirit. Truly one of the best performances of the Manfred I have heard in some time. The individual instruments are wonderfully caught and Kobayashi does a good job of controlling the raging emotions found in this music. Quite expensive, though. About $45-50 for just this one SACD. Perhaps one of the worst sounding recordings I have ever heard of this magisterial music. There are countless musical errors especially in the first and last movements.
