I'll just compare and contrast to the previous reviewer to "cut to the chase." The orchestra sounds rich and lush. The violin and viola when playing in unison, do have a bit of an edge, IMNSHO. Analog is dead. This disc would make a good eulogy. Here in one convenient package is everything we forgot we hated about magnetic tape. Oh, the hiss is not bad - the ear soon gets used to it and filters out most of it. But the limited dynamic range is objectionable from the very first phrase. And ... more

I like acoustic music. There is something about the spareness of it that allows the delicate harmonics of each instrument to come through - if recorded right. This DSD disc is recorded right. The clarity of individual notes is what I notice most about the recording. Not only does each section have its own physical space, but each instrument and each note are distinct. If at times the sound is "intimate," as if the hall disappears, it occurs at appropriate moments. Certainly there are ... more

Sounds great, great performance as usual by AK+US. The only quibble I have is that they mic Alison's voice to sound "thin," but this is the case on most of her recordings, not just this one. They could easily use a mic that would give her voice some more beefiness or heft, but "whatever." ... more
