This is an old Blue Note album, dating from 1961. The remastered SACD has a 2008 copyright. In June 2010, Sibelius2 reviewed the partner Dexter Gordon SACD “Go”, and my comments are quite similar regarding the recording quality. I have not heard this set, but it has been reviewed recently (11/24/09) at www.classicstoday.com by David Hurwitz. Hurwitz writes quite favorably of the set, assigning a 10/10 rating. It isn't clear whether he reviewed it in 2-CH or MCH, but I assume he did both, which leads to the ratings given ... more |

This is excellent music, both in composition and performance. The stereo presentation is fine.
However, the multichannel presentation is not to my tastes. Is has a highly immersive perspective that is quite unlike a real concert. In particular, the piano comes from all sides, as though one's head ... more |

Two points of clarification:
1) Symphonia domestica was recorded in 3-channel, and Le bourgeois gentilhomme was recorded in 2-channel (and both pieces were recorded in 1956).
