Another WOW! performance by MTT and the SFS!
The sonics are superb, as we already expect from this magnificent series. What is to talk about here is the performance - not only from the orchestra, but just as importantly from the conductor!

Do NOT buy this for the 1812! If you are familiar with the famous recording by Antal Dorati with the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra (recorded in 1958!), then you will be disappointed with this one! Let's hope that the good folks at Mercury will soon grace us (as they did with Stravinsky's Firebird) ... more |

Now - here is a transfer that really works! These recordings are old (1959 and 1964), but the quality is superb! And under Dorati's deft hand, the performances are unerring and spectacular! (I am still waiting for a transfer of Dorati's justly famous 1812!)
