Recording was taken from concert performances in Berlin, Lucerne, Freiburg and Strasbourg. Performance itself is good, but the audio quality is nothing special. A shame given this is its first outing on SACD: http://www.classical-cd-reviews.com/2014/09/schoenberg-moses-und-aron-cambreling.html ... more

Very fine performance of the Sonata - classic Richter. But the SACD adds little: http://www.classical-cd-reviews.com/2014/07/liszt-b-minor-sonata-richter.html ... more

This one's more about detail than passion. Lintu gets impressive clarity from the orchestra, which is picked up well by the recording. A little lacking in emotion, but well worth hearing, esp for Hewitt, whose reading of the solo part is as nuanced as any: http://www.classical-cd-reviews.com/2014/07/turangalila-symphonie-luntu-hewitt.html ... more

I thought this was magnificent. The gains of Payne's arrangement far outweigh the losses: http://www.classical-cd-reviews.com/2014/05/bruckner-symphony-no-2-arr-payne.html If you're after the original on SACD, I'd recommend Marcus Bosch: http://www.classical-cd-reviews.com/2011/05/bruckner-2-marcus-bosch-aachen-symphony.html ... more |
