Sonny Stitt: Blows The Blues        (5 of 5 found this review helpful)

I have subscribed to the Analogue Productions Verve SACD reissue series. This is the first one I am reviewing. The title is apt! Blues by a jazz saxophone master, in excellent form! The sound is excellent, clean, well balanced, very fine, LA, vintage Verve recording. I'm thinking this is the same ... more
Albert King: I’ll Play the Blues for You        (1 of 1 found this review helpful)

Great sounding sacd, one of the best blues sacds I've heard. The mix is clean, good stereo separation with the bass on one side, bass drum on the other, other rhythm and horns panned out from center, with King's guitar and vocal in the middle. The guitar is bitingly, searingly clear, almost stinging ... more
Lee Konitz: Parallels

Hello, got this one awhile ago, listened casually a few times, gave it a good listen this morning. Recording has a lot of room sound, the church setting is quite resonant. Instruments are well defined in the sound stage, slight muddiness in the low frequencies due to the room acoustic. Overall ... more

Hello, felt this disk deserved more than a short review. First of all I disagree with the "bad, pulpy sound" assessment. Not sure what is meant by pulpy sound. While the music here is from a live performance, to me it sounds more like a studio production. Towards the end of a couple of songs there ... more

So far this is one of the best jazz sacd's sonically I've heard. On "Feathers", the alto is recorded beautifully, right there! This recording is a prime example of what sacd is capable of given a first rate analog recording to begin with. Recording studio ambience is present, soundstage cleary ... more

LOL, well certainly alot of Mobley coming out these days. I'm not sure what to think about this Prestige Mono SACd series. Seem like the producers are taking the jazz collectors to the bank. How long will master tapes last being dragged out so often for a new reissue. BTW the Mosaic Hank Mobley 50's Blue Note sessions is Excellent and Still ... more
How many SACD's does the average SA-CD.net user's have????

I have about 110! Never counted them before. Hope to acquire more as time goes on. More jazz and classical titles coming out all the time. Most of mine are jazz, with some rock and classical titles. First ones I got were RCA classical reissues. Now I'm getting the Verve jazz reissues. I have one of the few players out there that plays sacds in ... more
How many of us are listening strictly to stereo SACD only?
April 16, 2008
Hello, new to this site, glad I found it. I listen to stereo sacd, because I have a good 2 channel system and don't have a room suitable for multichannel. I do have an Esoteric SA-60 player which will play the mch mixes in downmix mode. On the Roxy Music Avalon sacd I did notice a difference in the mix from the stereo mix, quiter, different ... more
