Couperin: Les Concerts Royaux - Savall        (7 of 7 found this review helpful)
  May 13, 2005

This is a magnificent sacd! I have a few Savall-cds and this one is my first AliaVox-sacd-mc. The new recording gives a varied strength of instruments: flute, oboe, bassoon, violin and viola da gamba. There are four concerts, played on toplevel. I cite Couperin in the beautiful booklet: "I wrote ... more
Mahler: Symphony No. 3 - Chailly          (1 of 3 found this review helpful)
  September 22, 2004

Among the fivestars-reviews I regret to let you know that my impression of the performance of this beautiful symphony is rather negative. I grew up with the performances of Haitink and also his performances on cd: well balanced and very dramatic, but this one is full of mannerism, in a negative way ... more
Mahler: Symphony No. 4 - San Francisco/Michael Tilson Thomas          (1 of 1 found this review helpful)
  April 15, 2004

I agree with Monteverdi. Mahler considered his 4th symphony his best; so do I, including performance and soundquality. Comparing with the first and third symphony from SFS/MTT the quality is increasing. I'm looking forward to the next one; I hope it will be the fifth.
Mozart: Requiem - Scottish Chamber Orchestra/Mackerras        (3 of 3 found this review helpful)

I discovered the review from amazon.com and it contents only the truth. This sacd is magnificent; a very spatial sound (notice: multichannel 4.0) and a great performance. Comparing with Van Veldhoven on ChannelClassics the sound and performance are much better. Buy it, even if you don't like a ... more

Discussion: Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 - Manze
May 11, 2008
After reading all these notes I would like to remark you should forget Manze for a while and listen to the thrilling performance of Beethoven's Eroica by Giovanni Antonini. It's a splendid multichannel recording by Sony. No Creatures of Prometheus are added but a second disc with the 4th Symphony. Same quality! ... more
Nespa PRO
January 30, 2007
Do you know the Nespa Pro? This small black box improves the sound quality of every cd and sacd in an incredible way. I use it for almost one month now and the results are very, very good: more space, larger soundstage, higher definition etc. I'm not a technician, so here is the link for more ... more

Yes, I owned this set and I sold it immediately. In this forum there is a thread: Discussion Beethoven Symphonies Jaap van Zweden and I advised not to buy this set, because the sound is very disappointing.(November 2003) I look forward to the PentaTone set with the performances of Kurt Masur ... more

Hello Nick, I have just found out that the sacd is distributed in Holland by Codaex. They have no website; the e-mailaddress is: nl@codaex.com Tel. +31206129724. In Holland Codaex is distributor of ChannelClassics and Pentatone too, but they have their own website. Another possibility is: www.kuijperklassiek.nl > english > special offers > ... more
a new label: RCO
September 1, 2004
Today I bought a sacd in The Hague/Holland from a new label: RCO live. This label records live-performances of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra itself like SFS. The sacd/multichannel 5.1 contents Dvoraks Symphony no.9 by the new chief-conductor Mariss Jansons. (RCO 04002) My first impression: splendid performance and recording. ... more
