I must say I don't get all the 5-star reviews of the sonics. I have to agree with those who gave poor sonic reviews. The cannons actually clip; that's why there is no bass energy in them. They simply exceed the amplitude limits of the digital format, so all that is left is a weak click where there ... more |

The music here is not simply "straight-ahead hard bop" as suggested by Claude. This is mostly "soul jazz" - jazz with a heavy soul (and R 'n B) bent - although there are a couple of numbers played in the hard bop style as well. | Ah, but I was referring to the *Audio Fidelity* remasters, which use the original stereo masters (yes, in bad shape I guess). The Columbia Legacy issues, on the other hand, used the original multitrack SESSION TAPES, which were in great shape and were faithfully remixed by Vic Anesini, allowing greater clarity/resolution and improved reverb as ... more |

| Whilst I generally LOVE most of the AF (and DCC) remasters for their warmth and luscious valve tones (which I know is a bit controversial in audiophile circles - many prefer the cleaner sound such as heard on XRCDs, etc) I have to say I am not a fan of the AF Sounds Of Silence CD compared to the Vic Anesini remixes.
