This is a must have disk for any jazz lover. The recording is great, lots of air around each instrument and overall great sound, as you might expect from chesky. The band is really together, as if they were old mates, which they are not. Ron Carter really shines.
i do not understand why the other reviewer claims there is hiss. i hear great sound, good ambiance and soundstaging. the performance by Thomas is 1st rate, a bit more studied and perhaps less passionate than some, but very revealing of Mahler's use of the orchestra.
