I actually started with a half din (Clarion now Pyle) in the dash. Worked and I could tell that it was holding the system back. Had a custom install done last week moving the radio up high, the A/C system just below and an Infinity beta mid bass driver and tweeter installed where the ashtray had been (2002 Lincoln LSE). Welp, heres the scoop: As you state, Sony will not access the DVD-A Audio layer. It will on the other hand access pretty much everything else. Sony Xplod online manual has a section which state which layers it won't access. Actually seems a little silly to me. Maybe with a firmware change in the future, or they may be setting up for more models. ... more | |

I can confirm that it plays PCM Stereo stream. I havn't tried PCM 5.1, but I don't see why it wouldn't. From what I am seeing, this new "x-dsp" engine is probably some chip developed to try and market inexpensive gear covering all bases. I would surmise then once people start buying more of anything, like chips with higher quality specs will come ... more | |

Installed in my 2002 Lincoln LSE. Pulled Factory Alpine 5.1 DSP unit. Maintained factory speakers for now, but put the Pyle (which by the way is the Clarion via China manufacturer) 1/2 din in the Lincoln kit pocket to assist the two factory 2 inchers.
